New Local Rules – 1 January 2019

Dear Members,

From January 1st 2019, the Rules of Golf will change – New Rules of Golf books available at reception and golf shop.

This has required our Local Rules to be re-written to reflect the new rules of golf.

The local rules will be given as a separate handout until they are updated on the back of our scorecards in the new year.

Most of the old local rules have remained however slightly modified.

A Major change to our local rules is:
Local Rule 6: ALTERNATIVE TO STROKE AND DISTANCE FOR LOST BALL OR BALL OUT OF BOUNDS. This rule provides an extra relief option if a player has not played a provisional ball when their ball is lost or if it is out of bounds. This rule will significantly speed up play by allowing players to play on without returning to the location of their previous stroke. Relief is taken in a large area between the point where the ball is estimated to have come to rest or gone out of bounds and the edge of the fairway that is not nearer the hole.

Below is a helpful video explaining the Local Rule, with diagrams explaining the situations where this relief method is allowed as well.

The rules changes can pose a challenge for players and staff and we ask you to do your best by reading and understanding the rules. Please speak to the Golf Shop if you have any questions.
